About April Turner

APRIL C. TURNER is a performing and literary artist currently based in the southeastern United States. Turner specializes in African theatre, dance performance and cultural traditions in the diaspora. Her research has taken her to Gambia, Senegal, Brasil, Canada and Mexico. Turner is interested in sharing ideas demonstrating ways in which artforms and culture can be used to affect positive change in challenged neighborhoods and educational settings. Ms. Turner’s work presenting traditional African stories and dance performances, residencies and workshops have made her a favorite among community centers, schools and cultural organizations nationwide.

As an actress, Ms Turner has had supporting roles in the made for TV movies, Ditch Digger’s Daughters, The Perfect Daughter, Her Deadly Rival, Stephen King’s The Night Flier and Texas Cadet Murders among several others. She co-starred in the major motion picture based on Truman Capote’s novel, Other Voices, Other Rooms and was featured on the hit NBC drama, ER, in an episode titled “Middle of Nowhere.” She also had roles on the hit teen drama, “One Tree Hill” and the science fiction drama, “Surface”, Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever and Eyeborgs. Most recently she appeared in  Army Wives as Dr. Tracey Winston and tv movie, Trinity Goodheart as Mrs. Cooper.

Ms. Turner has also successfully produced stage productions that have been warmly received from New Jersey to Florida to Oklahoma.
